IDIERI, the International Drama in Education Research Institute, is the pre-eminent drama education research conference held triennially in centres of excellence for drama education throughout the world. This, the sixth IDIERI, will examine the shifting conditions in schools and society generally, and explore the traditions of drama education and applied theatre.
The theme of IDIERI 6 is “Drama Research Futures: Examining our past, critiquing our present, imagining tomorrow”. This theme begs a discussion of the current state of drama education and applied theatre, and engages with the future of the field. It seeks reflection on the past as a way to examine our research agendas, contexts, methodologies and practices.
To be considered for presentation at this research institute, all papers, keyholes and panels MUST address an issue related to research. Several presentation formats are available:
- Papers - 40 minutes presentation time
- Keyholes - 90 minutes presentation time which may include performance / workshop elements
- Panels – 90 minutes presentation time
Please specify your preferred format when submitting your proposal. (Presentation times include time for questions and discussion.)
To submit proposals please visit the IDIERI 6 website and click on the 'Abstract & paper submission' link. This takes you to the online submission system; from the 'Authors' heading, select 'Submit an Abstract' from the drop-down menu.
Abstracts may be up to 500 words in length. A brief biography is also required to be submitted with your abstract. Authors will be sent notification of the acceptance status of their submissions to the email address provided in the online system. If this email address should change, please notify us immediately.

Educators in the fields of English and Arts educationincluding researchers, scholars, teachers, teacher-educators, prospective teachers, and policy makers are invited to submit proposals for papers, panels and workshops. The proposals need to address one or more of the following conference strands:
- Creativity, imagination, and engagement: innovative theoretical and practical interrelationships across the fields of English and the Arts
- Theories and practices in English and the Arts and within the domains of literacy
- Technology, media and multimedia in English and the Arts: challenges and opportunities
- National and international directions in English and Arts education curricula K12
- Indigenous literature, languages and the Arts in education
- Teacher education in English, the Arts and literacy
Proposals must be submitted on the official proposal submission form. Download the form and complete electronically providing information in the boxes with yellow shading. Text box size will increase when necessary as you type.
Proposal submissions must include an abstract of 250 words maximum and biographical details of 150 words maximum.
