Certificate in Mental Health Practice Standards

This course is only available online and focuses on:

  • the National Practice Standards
  • the theoretical underpinnings
  • the policy framework
  • the implications for practice
  • multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working
  • mental health workforce issues
    (eg. stress in the workplace; workplace advocacy)
  • mental health workforce new skills development and the multi-disciplinary health context

Course coordinators
Dr Zita Weber is a lecturer in social work and policy studies at the University of Sydney. She teaches in the undergraduate and postgraduate programs of the BSW. Her research interests include gender and mental health, mental health practice, migrant issues and loss and grief.

Professor Barbara Fawcett spent 13 years in professional practice operating as a senior practitioner, a manager, a research consultant and a senior manager before turning to academia. Prior to joining the University of Sydney she was Head of the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities at the University of Bradford in the UK.


Assessment & Accreditation
This online course may be taken as a stand-alone unit with participants receiving a Certificate in Mental Health Practice Standards upon completion of the full course.

Successful participants may then choose to complete additional assessment task(s) and, if successful, have their studies accredited as one unit of study towards a Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma or Masters degree offered by the faculty. (Please note this option carries an additional $400 fee for marking and administration.)
