Accreditation Agenda for Teachers Conference
Implications for you and your school
Friday 29 February 2008, 8:30am4pm
The New South Wales Institute of Teachers (NSWIT), the Independent Schools Teacher Accreditation Authority (ISTAA) and Teaching Australia (TA) are exerting an increasing influence on the work of schools, universities and the professional lives of teachers. The Professional Teaching Standard and their associated accreditation requirements provide opportunities for teachers and executive staff to document their professional practice in ways that can contribute to their own professional learning. Additionally, within schools, opportunities are emerging whereby the professional learning needs of student teachers, beginning teachers and more experienced teachers can be concurrently addressed.
This conference aims to support the work of those in schools with a responsibility for New Scheme Teachers who are working towards accreditation at Professional Competence, as well as those teachers with an interest in accreditation at the Institute’s more advanced Key Stages of Accomplishment and Leadership. Workshop topics will address:
- Professional teacher accreditation/registration agendas and bodies – Australia-wide
- The NSWIT – its work and its responsibilities
- ISTAA – its work and its responsibilities
- Teaching Australia - its work and its responsibilities
- Teacher Professional Standards Framework – structure and significance (NSWIT, ISTAA and TA)
- Accreditation requirements and processes for all Key Stages – Graduate Teacher, Professional Competence, Accomplishment and Leadership
- Implications for schools – requirements, roles and responsibilities
- Opportunities for teacher/school on-going professional learning linked to the accreditation agenda
- Intersections between schools’ involvement with universities’ teacher education programs and the in-service professional learning needs of teachers.
Participants will work towards developing guidelines relevant to their own school’s response and /or their own personal response to the accreditation requirements from the various accreditation agencies.
