Learning Support in Literacy and Numeracy

This course will examine in detail theories, policies and practices that promote quality literacy and numeracy learning outcomes for students identified as experiencing difficulties learning in a mainstream classroom environment. Specific focus will be placed on integrating theory and practice across a range of settings, including early childhood, primary and secondary.
At the completion of this course it is expected that participants will have:
- refined skills and knowledge in curriculum analysis
- understanding of a range of theoretical perspectives in literacy and numeracy development
- skills in designing, developing or adapting, monitoring and evaluating teaching and learning programs
- skills in evaluating current research in evidence-based practices in education
- skills in using curriculum-based assessment to identify long and short term learning outcomes
- knowledge and understanding of Disability Standards for Education (2005), and
- knowledge and skills to participate in collaborative teams to develop learning support structures
for students with additional literacy and numeracy needs.
Attendance
To attain the Certificate in Educational Studies (Learning Support), participants must attend
- both days of the Successful Learning Conference
- PLUS all five Tuesday evening workshops.
This year teachers in regional NSW will be able to attend the workshop series via videoconference. It will be the participants’ responsibility to access a videoconferencing site in their local area. Please ring Margaret Day on 9351 7031 for further information.
Accreditation
Successful participants have the option of having this program accredited as one unit of study towards a graduate certificate, graduate diploma or masters degree offered by the faculty. This entails undertaking two assessment tasks and carries an additional fee for marking and administration.

Single rate: $780 / Group rate: $750
Optional assessment tasks for accreditation: $400
NB: To be eligible for group rates participants must be from the same institution or organisation, and registration forms must be submitted together.
