Teaching Reading within a Balanced Literacy Program

This course invites primary school teachers K6 to reflect on current practices to question why they do what they do and to see how they can reinvigorate the teaching of reading within an integrated program.
During the workshop participants will:
- identify critical ingredients in a successful literacy program
- discuss organisational strategies and links with integrated units
- focus on guided reading, and
- explore the notion of literacy centres and independent literacy activities.

About the Presenter: Robyn Wild has worked for the NSW Department of Education and Training as a classroom teacher, assistant principal, literacy consultant and senior curriculum officer in the Early Learning Unit. She currently works part time at the University of Sydney, Macquarie University and the University of Wollongong, lecturing on reading and writing acquisition. Robyn also works as a literacy consultant in schools across New South Wales.
